For young people in America or Europe, US$20 could buy
a ticket to a movie and a snack. In Swaziland, that money could
feed a child for a month.
As the department of the United Nations that fights
hunger, the World Food Programme (WFP) has calculated an international
standard for meeting the minimum required nutritional needs of children.
The cost: only US$19 per month. In Swaziland, that small amount
buys all the food needed to meet – and surpass – the WFP's guidelines
for a month's worth of food.
