Young Heroes Stokes the Fire at MTN Bushfire Festival 2024
The MTN Bushfire Festival, renowned for its global draw and focus on social issues, provided a unique platform for the 2024 YH/USAID initiative to engage with men and boys. Targeting a traditionally underserved demographic, the festival aimed to increase awareness of HIV and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention while promoting PrEP uptake.
Nearly 2,000 men were reached through the activation. These engagements included educational sessions and referrals to PrEP services, resulting in 67 men seeking PrEP uptake post-event—a promising indicator of the initiative’s impact.
The creative activities allowed Young Heroes to stand out and make the learning experience exciting! The stall had cup matching, 30 seconds, pop-a-balloon, and an online quiz, among many educational games.
Additionally, Young Heroes’ staff hosted the traditional “share your fire stall” which offered festival-goers opportunities to learn about the organization’s work and contribute through donations. The festival’s dialogues also served as a platform to address youth employability and GBV, with Young Heroes’ Economic Strengthening and Private Sector Lead participating in televised discussions.
A comprehensive strategy, including digital and on-site materials, amplified the campaign’s message throughout the festival.
