STEP Receives Support

MTN Foundation and Swaziland Empowerment Limited (SEL) have jointly donated E350,000 (US$30,000) to Young Heroes’ Skills Training Empowerment Program (STEP). MTN Foundation contributed E200,000, while SEL contributed E150,000.

This funding will enable almost 100 youth between 19 – 26 years to attend a year-long course in their choice of vocations at Manzini Industrial Training Centre (MITC), Siteki Industrial Training Centre (SITC) or Nhlangano Industrial Training Centre (NITC).

The sponsorship was announced during a celebration of 50 trainees who have successfully completed training at MITC and SITC.

Young Heroes Director Khulekani Magongo congratulated the trainees and further thanked our donors. “We would be able to support such a large number if it were not for MTN Foundation,” he said, while also welcoming our new partner, SEL.

MTN’s Chief Executive Officer said “Our aim is to keep young people away from the streets. We look forward to working with these young people in the next chapter of their lives. We know that some of them will be our vendors and will support us and other corporations with specialized services.”

SEL Board Chairperson Mr.Ginindza contributed, “One of our objectives is to create job opportunities for young people to start their own businesses. As the private sector, we need to meet government half way.”
