Through the power of community, Tisite (self-help groups) support caregivers to start savings collectives to improve their economic status.

Our Goal: Increase resilience among poor households in the Hhohho region by empowering disadvantaged women.

The project was initiated in 2022, funded by Kindernothilfe (KNH) and the Baylor Children’s Clinic.

Tisite targets 1,000+ caregivers who are prepared with savings and lending knowledge. Caregivers are then empowered to start small businesses to generate income for their households. They are linked to institutions that support capacity building on entrepreneurship and financial assistance.

The project’s approach is based on the African proverb, “Umuntfu ngumuntfu nge bantfu.’’ Loosely translated as – all humans are interconnected and are part of a larger community.

Two principles guide Tisite:

  1. Every human being has tremendous, God-given potential. This hidden potential in the poor can be unleashed if a beneficial environment is provided.
  2. As individuals, the poor are voiceless, powerless, and vulnerable. By bringing them together as a kindred collective – aware of their rights – they gain tremendous strength and claim their rights.
