Hope Returns When Education Dreams are Realized

Young Heroes’ Halt Project Helps a Joyful Zamahlubi Dlamini

Young Heroes through The Halt Project, funded by the Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations (CANGO) re-enrolled 71 out-of-school adolescent girls and young women (AGYW)  back to school. The girls were re-enrolled across five high schools under Mhlume constituency. The project paid over E700,000 (over USD$47,000) towards their school fees, uniform and stationery.

One of the young women, Zamahlubi Dlamini, 21 (pictured), could not hold back tears of joy when she was informed that she had qualified to be supported with education funding for two years. In 2016, Zamahlubi dropped out of school due to lack of funds. She was being raised by a single mother as her father died when she was only four years old.

“I cannot express the feeling I have now that I am back in class. I am a student at Lusoti High School doing Form 4. I am so happy just thinking that finally my dreams are about to come true; a heavy burden has been lifted off my shoulders and the future looks bright. I have no words, nonetheless, thank you Young Heroes,” she said.

Re-enrolled in School, Ncobile Magagula Appreciates Young Heroes Support

Education Dream Realized, Hope Returns, Young Heroes, Eswatini,

Ncobile Magagula, a student who was re-enrolled in school after dropping out due to lack of funds extends her sincere appreciation for the support which has seen her completing her high school education. Ncobile stays with her unemployed mother and five siblings. Her father, who was the sole breadwinner, abandoned them four years ago.

“Life became really tough after my father decided to abandon us in 2017; as a result, I dropped out of school because there was no money to pay for my school fees” she said. However, her life turned around when she joined Young Heroes educational sessions on HIV prevention facilitated through the Halt Project in Mhlume constituency.

After completing the sessions Ncobile was offered an opportunity of going back to school, which she gladly took up. In 2020, Ncobile sat for her high school examination which she passed very well “I obtained very good results which will enable me to further my studies” she said. She also thanked Young Heroes for the support “thank you for giving me hope, for playing a big role in my life, giving me a second chance and believing in me; I will forever be grateful for this lifetime opportunity.”

Ncobile is part of 71 girls that were re-enrolled back to school in the second-year life of the Halt Project.
