Strategic Partnerships. Real Work Exposure. Measurable Employment Outcomes.
At Young Heroes, empowerment is intentional and holistic. The organization works with Adolescent Girls and Young Women to reduce vulnerability by unlocking their potential across social, economic, and personal development areas. Through safe spaces, mentorship, skills development, and strategic partnerships, Young Heroes equips young women with the confidence and practical tools needed to navigate adulthood and participate meaningfully in society.
Within this empowerment framework, Young Heroes leverages strategic partnerships to open professional pathways for young women. One such partnership is with the Eswatini Youth Empowerment Programme (EYEP), a national initiative that prepares young people for the workforce and facilitates job placement opportunities. Through this collaboration, and with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Young Heroes offers structured internship opportunities that combine real-world work experience with intentional mentorship.
Real-World Success Story
One such young woman is Setsabile Samunenge. Setsabile holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Industrial Sociology and Labour Studies, as well as an Honours Degree in Development Studies. Curious by nature and people-oriented, she is motivated by work that improves systems and enables others to thrive.
“I am excited by environments where learning is practical and where your contribution matters. I want to grow in spaces that challenge me and prepare me for real responsibility,” she shares.
Setsabile joined Young Heroes as an intern within the Strategic Information and Human Resources Department. During her time with the organization, she was integrated into day-to-day operations and entrusted with meaningful assignments. The experience emphasized contribution, accountability, and professional development within a supportive work environment.
Young Heroes’ youth empowerment model is practical and intentional. Young women gain hands-on professional experience, exposure to workplace systems and standards, and an environment that treats them as emerging professionals.
During her internship, Setsabile successfully transitioned into full-time employment as a Human Resources Officer at the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), a government-owned organization focused on supporting and developing small businesses. This milestone marked the core objective of the internship program: preparing young people to successfully enter the workforce. For Young Heroes, this represents tangible impact.
It reinforces a simple truth: when young people are provided with structure, trust, and opportunity, they advance. Strategic partnerships can transform potential into employment. Young Heroes remains committed to strengthening pathways that position Adolescent Girls, Young Women, Adolescent Boys, and Young Men as job-ready talent equipped to contribute meaningfully to Eswatini’s development.
