The WORTH project's aim is to alleviate poverty by teaching rural Swati women to be financially literate and creating the opportunity for them to become microentrepreneurs to support themselves and their families.

The WORTH project is expected to directly serve 400 adult women over two years (2020-2021).

Through the support of Together Women Rise, Young Heroes is implementing a WORTH project in Lubombo and Manzini regions.

The goal is achieved by bringing the women together into groups, encouraging participation, training on financial literacy, and managing income-generating activities.

The changes expected to take place after implementing the project are as follows:

  • The economic condition of participating women and their children improves as they become financially literate and support themselves in establishing microenterprises. This additional income will strengthen their families’ health via better nutrition and provide funds for household necessities such as school fees.
  • Women will be financially literate and create the opportunity for them to become self-sufficient microentrepreneurs.

In year one of the project, Young Heroes formed ten groups with 199 members in the Lubombo region. The groups started income-generating activities including, indigenous and broiler chickens, piggery, car wash, tent leasing, shisanyama (braai/barbecue meat), and vegetable farming.
