Young Heroes and Together Women Rise Empower Female Caregivers

Through the support of Together Women Rise (formerly known as Dining For Women), Young Heroes has donated USD$3,836 (SZLE53,705) to four WORTH groups with 74 women under the Mhlume constituency to empower female caregivers to start up income-generating activities. The donation came after the women underwent training on HIV prevention, how to start saving and lending schemes, and business planning and management. The income-generating activities to be initiated by the groups include a carwash, garden, broiler chickens, and a ‘shisanyama.’

Young Heroes Executive Director, Mr. Khulekani Magongo, said that this support is provided as a business startup which meant the actual work was beginning. He cautioned the women to “try to form partnerships with different companies and organizations that can extend more help for the youth” so that their businesses can expand.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Ms. Thandeka Simelane said that “we are very grateful for the sponsorship from Young Heroes and the donor because, with the money that we will make from the businesses, we will be able to improve our lives and be independent.” She further noted that they would no longer be forced to stay in abusive relationships to have money to support their children.

The constituency representative Mr. Morris Dlamini pledged that they would continue to support Young Heroes projects because they had observed that it helps the youth and the community benefits and is motivated. “We are very grateful to the donor, Together Women Rise, that has empowered the women in our constituency; we are hopeful that the businesses will thrive.”

Young Heroes trained six other groups expected to receive their seed grant to start up their income-generating activities.
